You use your wealth to acquire mines and means of transport and recruit artists to make beautiful jewelry from gemstones. You do all this to become the most prestigious merchant. If you are very wealthy, you can even receive visits from noblemen, whom you can tempt into buying your jewelry. This of course gives you even more prestige.
